Department: Department of Medical Education

Position Title: Tutor

Availability: Summer 2025

Duties and Responsibilities: Course Time and Meetings TA's are involved for the entire course from May, 28 - July, 16 (if possible). We will meet prior to the start of the PA course to discuss TA responsibilities and schedule your time for: TAing specific parts of the course, regular meetings to help mentor you through the course, and a prosecution schedule. There may be additional work if interested before the course starts. For example, creating structure lists for the individual labs. Prosections Prosections are dissections done prior to teaching students in the lab. Doing prosections will become beneficial when we get part way through the course and start teaching subjects you haven't had a chance to cover in your own curriculum yet. This year I am hoping to start this process sooner than later. We will meet a month or two ahead of the class start date to start dissections. Help teach students during dissection lab Lab is typically every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. There are some days where it is also in the morning from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Here you will assist students through dissection for that day (like the faculty do with your dissection labs). You will be helping with other TAs and there will be at least two faculty members present as well. Practice practical set up and proctoring There will be at least one practice practical set up (for the first exam) you will do with faculty. You will help set up and proctor the practice exam. We encourage you to give other practice practical exams for the other two exams on your own time. Think of the practice practical exams you have through SKMC given by your peers. Practical Exam Set Up There are 3 exams for the course. TAs will assist with set up the lab practical exams. These set-ups occur on the Thursday or Tuesday before the exam from 1 - 5 p.m. You will also be asked to help proctor the exams on the next day from 1 - 5 p.m. PA Course Preparation There are times we will need to prepare certain blocks for their dissections. For example, for Thorax, we will remove chest walls prior to the start of lab.
