Breastfeeding Class

This engaging class provides participants with everything they need to know to more successfully establish breastfeeding - or support a new mother who has decided to breastfeed. We recognize that there is a very small window in which successful, exclusive breastfeeding can be established, and that many new mothers are mastering this skill during a busy and sometimes stressful time.

Our hope is to reach the broadest spectrum of mothers, helping them understand the current recommendations, challenges, benefits and practical considerations around breastfeeding - while simultaneously inspiring them to consider breastfeeding as the first choice for feeding their babies.

One Day Childbirth Program

For most pregnant women, even if you already have a child, the labor and birth process can be both overwhelming and joyful. This childbirth class will help build your confidence in your body's ability to give birth. You can discuss your fears about labor and birth with the instructor and other participants with the same concerns. If a partner is present, they will learn about childbirth and how to support you on the big day. You may find that attending childbirth classes together will create a special bond.

Jefferson Health uses a curriculum that supports and empowers expectant women and families to make informed decisions. Your instructor will discuss pain relief options, including massage, relaxation, breathing techniques, and medical procedures such as epidural. The class content includes labor, birth, and the early postpartum period, positioning for labor and birth, relaxation and massage techniques to alleviate pain, labor support, communication skills, information about medical procedures, and breastfeeding.

A tour of the maternity unit will be provided and will give you the opportunity to see staff in action. This is a great time to ask your instructor about routine practices.
