Mentoring is an essential component to career success, productivity, and satisfaction. The goals of these two faculty professional development workshops are to introduce faculty to mentor-mentee concepts and provide a framework for building specific mentoring skills -- for both the mentor and the mentee. The principles and methods discussed are generalizable to all faculty and may be used to guide mentorship programs within departments, as well as to assist mentors and mentees in optimizing their respective mentoring relationships.

At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

    1) Appreciate the process of reflection via a self-assessment to identify potential areas for further professional development.
    2) Identify the characteristics that great mentors possess.
    3) Discuss successful strategies to initiate and maintain mentoring relationships.
    4) Define the roles and responsibilities of the mentor and the mentee.
