Position Title: Student Researcher (must have a bachelor's degree for this position) (view pay rate/title summary)

Availability: Summer 2024

Duties and Responsibilities: PRIMARY FUNCTION: Serve as a peer mentor for Black/African American pre-med students who are participating in a summer educational program on Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias (ADRD). This program will enroll 10 undergraduates who will be residing at Jefferson from 5/18/24 through 7/19/24. The program will provide educational, research, and clinical experiences for students. This is an opportunity for medical students to gain mentoring experience, and to enrich their knowledge of neurological conditions that affect older patients. The hours are flexible, but students will most likely be needed Mondays through Wednesdays from 5/28/24 through 7/19/24 (or until the work-study student’s academic year begins). Students will be needed on occasional evenings and weekends to organize social activities. The number of hours per week is 10 to 25, depending on the work-study student’s availability. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1) Be the “go-to” person for students (e.g., connect students with Jefferson resources as needed, conduct campus tours, serve as a liaison between the students and program faculty). 2) Conduct informal educational sessions with students on the medical school application process (for example, describe the steps involved with applying to medical school, help students formulate personal statements, role play interviews). 3) Attend program lectures and research activities alongside students, and informally reinforce learning activities through discussions (for example, advise students on appropriate strategies for communicating with patients). 4) Assist program staff with administrative duties as needed (for example, assist with scheduling clinical shadowing experiences for students, assist with data collection on a study that the students will be working on). 5) Organize 1 to 2 social activities per week for students in the evenings or weekends (for example, tour a part of the city, trip to museum, dinner, game night).
