Assistive Technology

A series of national policy studies about assistive technology (AT) with infants and toddlers are being conducted through a federally-funded research institute, Tots N' Tech (TnT). This is an inter-university collaboration between Thomas Jefferson University and Arizona State University that investigates the use of AT to enhance the development of infants and toddlers with disabilities.

The mission of TnT is

  1. to study prevalence, policy and resources, individualized decision making, training and support and other factors related to use of AT devices and services in early intervention

  2. to disseminate current knowledge and research findings in timely ways to families, multidiscipline EI providers, administrators, educators and policymakers using a variety of methods and approaches

  3. to partner with parents of children with disabilities, with individuals with disabilities, in the design and implementation of the national research program.
TnT intends to produce new knowledge and information about AT use and practices and, specifically, about the ways in which AT may optimize children's development and learning.
