AISR Support for Faculty Publishing

Jefferson Digital Commons

Jefferson Digital CommonsThe Jefferson Digital Commons, launched in 2005, is a showcase of Jefferson scholarship. Its services include support of faculty self-archiving of published articles, and support of original publication. Institutional repositories such as the Commons have become increasingly common at universities as academics seek alternatives to traditional publishing.

Self-Archive Scholarly Articles

  • All Jefferson authors may deposit copies of their published works, subject to their publishers' policies
  • Articles may be accompanied by additional data sets, illustrations, and other supplementary materials
  • Deposited articles are freely available to all Internet users
  • Deposited articles are indexed by major search services, such as Google
  • Authors may request Personal Research Pages to showcase their individual work
  • Authors receive monthly usage statistics via email
  • Jefferson authors pay no fees for Commons deposits, and materials are preserved in perpetuity
  • Authors who are not certain about what they may deposit may contact the JEFFLINE Editor (Editor.JEFFLINE@jefferson.edu) for advice about their publishers' policies

Original Publication

The Commons also hosts original works that have not been formally published elsewhere. These may include

  • Conference or workshop presentations
  • Teaching materials
  • Guest lectures
  • Journals and newsletters
  • Departmental and administrative documents

Note that video, audio, PowerPoint™ slides, datasets, and other non-text formats can be housed in the Commons. Monthly use statistics are available on an individual article level. Examples of original newsletters already in production include:

Hosting is free to Jeffersonians, and AISR staff are available to assist with design and loading of materials. Departments may choose to have staff members trained as editors for direct access to and control of their publications.

The Commons can support subscription services and access limitations based on either IP address or password. If you have an application that requires material be available only on campus or by password, the Commons can accommodate you.

Support for Peer Review

For original journals published in the Jefferson Digital Commons, an optional peer-review support tool is available. Jefferson editors may identify a set of reviewers and manage the assignment of submitted articles to reviewers, as well as correspondence with authors. This service is based on Berkeley Press (bepress) software, as developed for the California Digital Library.

For any questions regarding the Jefferson Digital Commons, please contact Ann Koopman, JEFFLINE Editor, at 215-503-0441 or Editor.JEFFLINE@jefferson.edu
