Instant Messaging/Wimba Pronto

Instant Messaging is popular way for people to see that their friends and family are online. You can give them a quick hello and catch up on what’s new. We know many faculty and students have their own Instant Messaging accounts already, but they probably do not want to share that with everyone in the class. Wimba Pronto solves that. It’s an instant messaging tool that works with all Pulse (Blackboard) courses and organizations. Class and organization lists will automatically populate based on enrollment - so you don’t need to ask each student or participant for their screen name.

Instructors can use Wimba Pronto for scheduled office hours, or just see who in their course is currently online. Students can see if their instructor or other students are online and ask questions they may have.

Wimba Pronto is a separate application that you will need to install on your computer if you want to use it. It has to be installed and running for others to know that you’re online. You control when you want to be available.

To access the installer, look for the Wimba Pronto link in the Commucation or Tools menu of one of your courses or organizations. You only need to run the installer once and it will stay current with your course and organization enrollments.
