JMC Student Council: Meeting Minutes

September 9,1998

I. ATTENDANCE

Reps absent without prior notification: Sammy Zacharia, '00, Chris Barotti, '00, Steve Mathai, '99

II. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT

  1. CLASS of 2002 ELECTIONS
    • Ballots will be distributed on Sept 29 at the Gross Anatomy exam.
    • Those interested in running for one of the 6 student rep positions must submit a petition to JAH 157 (Student Affairs Office) by 5pm Sept 22.
    • The petition should include a short paragraph (which will appear on the ballot) from the candidate introducing him/herself and signatures from 25 classmates.
    • Students elected on Sept 29 will serve until Feb 1999, when JMC-wide elections will be held.
    • Those elected in Feb will then serve as student reps for 1 year.
    • Please contact Monica Tadros (tadros1) or Eugene Chung (chung2) if there are any questions.
  2. PROCEDURE
    • A summary of Robert's Rules of Order was distributed to all council members for review.
  3. student society treasurers!
    • New reimbursement forms are available in Suken's folder in JAH 157.
    • Additionally, an orientation meeting for new treasurers is being planned.
  4. 3rd and 4th years can sign up for the Beeper fund.
    • For a fee of $20 over 2 years, or $10 for just 4th year, Student Council will reimburse up to $100 towards the replacement of a lost beeper.
    • A similar Stethoscope Fund is in the works.

III) COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  1. Admissions:
    • Applications last year were down 5% nationwide, 10% at Jeff (from 10,000 to 9,000). 2002 is the first class with 50% females.
    • An orientation session on student interviewing is forthcoming.
  2. Affiliations:
    • They just received updates for the Senior Elective Handbook.
    • Affiliations Day will be Feb 19, 1999.
  3. Computers:
    • Melanie Nelson, from the National Board of Medical Examiners, will give a demo of the likely format for the computerized USLME I on Oct 5 at 4pm in Solis-Cohen.
  4. Curriculum:
    • Course liaisons for 1st and 2nd year classes are being organized.
    • DHI grades are still being tabulated.
  5. Student Affairs:
    • Those needing reimbursement for International Day (last spring) expenses should contact Becky Thomas (thomas6).
