JMC Student Council: Meeting Minutes

October 14, 1998

I. EXECUTIVE REPORT

  • Students whose books were sold at the Book Sale last month will soon be able to pick up their money at the Student Affairs Office (JAH 157). More information is forthcoming.
  • Nominations for Executive Committee (the offices of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary) will be taken starting at the November meeting. Elections will be in December.
  • Treasurers of student groups should continue using the new forms available in JAH 157 as they are expediting the reimbursement process.
  • Applications for USLME Step 1 are expected to arrive at the Registrar's office on Nov 6. Second years should be on the look out for more info on email in the next few weeks.
  • Some complaints have been filed with the Student Affairs regarding party signs. We are asked to tone down the emphasis on BEER.

II. COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  1. Affiliations: gathering responses for updated book; 3rd years, please submit your responses!

  2. Alumni: planning well underway for Career Day in December and Parents Day in February or March.

  3. Computers: we should see additional MACs and PCs on the 4th floor of Scott Library; also, faster PCs may replace some of the MACs on the 1st floor; AISR is still reluctant to give 2002 PINE accounts; a new program for a Student Council WebBoard, for posting announcements and such, is being considered.

  4. Student Affairs: copies of upcoming issues of The Examiner, the student newspaper, may be delivered on email.

III. STUDENT ORGANIZATION REQUESTS

  • $250 in conference funds was voted on and approved for the Gibbon Surgical Society.
  • Official status for a new JMC student group, The Society of Tomorrow's Physicians, was voted on and approved.

IV. IMPORTANT NOTES / REMINDERS

  • Secretary's addendum: J.M. Balaicuis '02 has told me that Williams & Wilkins has recently released an updated version (4.0) of its Stedman's Medical Dictionary CD-ROM. If you already own the older version, the upgrade costs $29.00. If interested, email custserv@wwilkins.com or call 1-800-527-5597.

Any questions regarding this report should be sent to Eugene Chung (chung2@jeflin.tju.edu).
