JMC Student Council: Meeting Minutes

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT:
President
Neerav made a brief mention of the eight Learning Societies that JMC students are now a part of in order to foster longitudinal mentorship. Each Learning Society will have a community service project to work on throughout the year.
Nominations for officers will be taken at both the October and the November meeting; the nominee must be present at the meeting. Feel free to contact any of the current officers to ask questions about what each position entails.

Welcome to the new first-year class representatives: Justin Brothers, Geoffrey Gaunay, Robert Kinner, Joseph Petfield and Rajan Singla.
Secretary

Treasurer

DEAN'S REPORT: Dr. Pohl
Thank you to all of the students from the Deans for their continuous contribution to JMC.
The planned opening date of the new building (located at 10 th and Locust Streets) is October 2007.
LCME update: the separate committees are preparing their drafts now so that they can be sent out in the next few weeks. This is part of the process that all medical schools must complete every eight years to be re-accredited.
The 1 st and 2 nd Year students have had a chance to meet with their Learning Societies during 2 nd Year orientation. There are currently seven out of eight community sites secured for the Learning Societies’ community service projects.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE (Daron Kahn):
Nothing to Report.
AFFILIATIONS COMMITTEE (Michael Fishman, Arayel Osborne):
Letters were sent out to the affiliates over the summer.
ALUMNI COMMITTEE (Marylee Dilling, Gilbert Kim):
There is a meeting this Wednesday for Career Day planning.
RESEARCH COMMITTEE (Alex Mericli, Jason Bessey, Leslie Moroz, Irene Yang):
Nothing to Report.
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE (Jessica Crocker, Jake Dahl):
The three summer meetings were summarized in an email that went out to the school several weeks ago detailing any changes that were made to this year’s curriculum. There will be monthly updates sent out throughout the school year that students are encouraged to read.
The curriculum committee is requesting feedback from any students that have used Blackboard Backpack Jessica.Crocker@jefferson.edu, John.Dahl@jefferson.edu.
STUDENT AFFAIRS (Kristen Scully, Emily Abramson)
Recent meeting discussed the Learning Societies.
Also discussed an incident where security discarded a student’s food that the student planned to eat in the library lounge later that day. It was then concluded that a fridge in JAH should be made available so that students can store food on campus.
TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE (Steven Presciutti):
There is new software in both classrooms (Brent and Foerderer) for direct audio recording of the lectures.
Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Lopez would like five or six computers put into the Gross Anatomy Lab so students can view the dissections that were video-taped this summer.
Also discussed the problem of online quizzes being dropped while students are taking them.
CLASS REPORTS:
Class of 2007:
Mid 3 rd Block.
Should have their applications completed by October at the latest.
Class of 2008:
Mid 2 nd Block; it ends September 29 th.
Class of 2009:
Finished Intro to Path/Pharm and are now in IID.
Brent Auditorium is not ideal.
Class of 2010:
Mid Anatomy.
The new class reps introduced themselves.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Jonathan Kopelovich received $200 to attend the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery annual meeting in Toronto. The purpose of his trip is to give a presentation, which he will present to the History of Medicine Society upon his return.
- APAMSA/JADE received $200 to help their officers attend the APAMSA National Conference.
