Secretary
The note service is being run by Student Council completely now,
and so far it looks to be going pretty smoothly. I want to thank
the class reps efforts in helping keep the Student Council note
service a viable service and resource to the rest of the student
body.
Also, there seems to be an error with the listservs, with some
of the students receiving e-mails from a wrong class's mailing
list. Unfortunately, I can not modify these settings, but I would
recommend talking to Jeff-IT about these concerns. I have talked
to Jeff-IT, and these changes need to be made on an individual
basis.

STUDENT AFFAIRS (Erin Cunningham, Melissa Wilson)
- Orientation
- Big success, big turnout from the 1st year class
- Included events such as a BBQ, Water Ice Social (with professors
& deans scooping), Phillies game, Art After 5, movie night,
festivals down at Penn's Landing, etc.
- Events planned the first weekend were not attending at all
because of a JeffMAIL glitch
- Big Sib/Little Sib Program
- Also a big success
- Many 2nd years have 2 little sibs because of the difference
in class sizes
- Dinner was held out at many local restaurants to get to
know each other
- Student Affairs Committee meeting
- Held this morning; 1st meeting for the 2005-2006 school
year
- 2 groups got Student Affairs approval:
- Jefferson Running Club (pending approval from
the Trademark committee - explained below) led by Laura
Snyder
- Doc-TOUR Golf Club led by Chris Yingling &
Paul Benedetto
- Messages from Kim Caltagirone in the Activities Office:
- Student Organization meeting
- Will be held during 2 separate time slots:
- Wed, Oct. 12th at noon
- Tues, Oct. 18th at 7pm
- At least one representative from every organization
at Jefferson must attend one of the two sessions (doesn't
matter which) - MANDATORY
- Representative from University Council will
be there to discuss all legal matters
- Topics for discussion will include:
- Posting Policy - all flyers for events
must be approved and stamped by the Activities
Office; max of 20 flyers per event
- Trademark Policy - all organizations
using "Jefferson" or "Jeff"
in their name will be reviewed for approved usage
of the Jefferson trademark
- Alcohol Policy - no advertisements (flyers
or email) can include any reference whatsoever
to alcohol. If an event is being held at a bar,
you may include the name and address of the bar,
but no reference to specials, or the activity
of drinking.
- The above 3 issues are POLICIES - rules that
must be followed without exception
- Registration vs. Recognition of organizations
- registration enrolls groups as official Jefferson
groups; recognition means that TJU is legally
liable for all events held under their name. All
groups will be registered; very very few (if any)
will be recognized (liability issues). Caused
a good degree of discussion in the Student Affairs
meeting this morning due to protecting students
vs. protecting the university from lawsuits.
- Travel statement - initiated by the problem
of Jeff Mentors driving their mentees (legal minors)
across state lines into NJ. Another liability
issue. The University is heavily recommending
that all groups use public transportation whenever
possible. If train/bus is not possible, taxis
or limo/van services should be utilized.
TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE (Dan Hernandez, Dan Relles ):
