Document Delivery Services

Loansome Doc Service Policies and Fees

Policies

  • Participation in Loansome Doc requires a two-step registration:
    1. Complete the online form to register with Scott Library and then, once we approve your application,
    2. Register with the National Library of Medicine.
  • Once registered, Loansome Doc orders may be submitted to Scott Library 24 hours per day, directly via PubMed.
  • Articles owned by the library will be provided within 1 business day.  Articles not owned by the library will be submitted to our interlibrary loan network and filled typically within 3-5 business days.
  • The Interlibrary Loan office is open for queries and article processing Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 215-503-2831.
  • Requests received after 12:00 noon will be processed on the next business day for all regular delivery methods.
  • Detailed information about using Loansome Doc to order articles is available from our electronic handout available at http://jeffline.jefferson.edu/SML/helpaids/handouts/loansome.pdf
  • Scott Library reserves the right to refuse an Loansome Doc request if, in our judgment, fulfillment of the order would violate the U.S. copyright law. For example, standard copyright rules prohibit items more than 50 pages in length, or more than 5 articles from a single journal issue.

Eligibility

  • Full Loansome Doc services are available to all Jeffersonians with current TJU photo IDs (not including yellow Temporary IDs).
  • Jefferson alumni and Corporate and Individual Library Members may use Loansome Doc only to request articles owned by Scott Memorial Library.
  • Retired faculty and staff, and members of the general public are NOT eligible for Loansome Doc service at this time. Those not eligible for service from Scott Library may create and account with a participating Loansome Doc library that provides service to the public.

Delivery Methods

  • Online delivery, pickup in person, U.S. mail, interdepartmental mail and fax are the only methods of delivery offered for Loansome Doc ordering.
  • If you elect to pick up the material at the Library, we will notify you when it is available. You may pick it up at the Circulation Window on the second floor during all regular Library hours.
  • If you elect to receive material by U.S. mail or by interdepartmental mail, we will mail your request(s) to you upon arrival; please allow an additional 3 days for delivery.
  • If you elect to receive material by fax, we will fax your request to you upon receipt. Requests for faxed articles may incur an additional fee of $5 per item.
  • We MUST receive payment before sending your document(s) by email, mail or fax. If you select this option on the order form, please be certain to provide your interdepartmental charge code (IDC).

Fees

  • Choose one payment method to use with all your Loansome Doc orders. Users who originally registered for service with another payment method may change to IDC to receive online or email delivery by contacting the Interlibrary Loan Department at 215-503-2831.
  • Document fees for Jeffersonians are $5.00 per individual article or book and may be paid by interdepartmental charge code (IDC), case or check. Payment method must be indicated on each request.
  • The fee for CORPORATE MEMBERS is $10.00 per item requested.
  • ONLINE DELIVERY for Jeffersonians must be paid by interdepartmental charge code (IDC), except for Jefferson students who qualify for free requests.
  • Thomas Jefferson University STUDENTS receive 10 free document delivery articles per academic year, September through August, in any combination of Loansome Doc, ILL or JEFFDocs. Thereafter, charges accrue at the normal delivery rate of $5 per item. Requests for electronic delivery in excess of 10 must be prepaid in cash at the Circulation Window before the order will be processed.
  • VISITING STUDENTS are not eligible for free interlibrary loan service and are charged the standard rate.
  • RESIDENTS are considered clinical staff, and are not eligible for free student interlibrary loan service.
