A
Flotilla of Healing Kites
Hear
the musical composition "Kites"
Glistening and shimmering, the kites take flight. Soaring into
the stream of life. Stoking the imagination and evoking startling
images of ourselves and others. A dialogue is begun and communication
flows freely within the mind, body and spirit. Alive with powerful
images and colors, we are enabled to explore and marshal the physical,
emotional, spiritual and psychological aspects of healing. The quintessential
lesson to be learned: art is -- in and of itself -- powerfully therapeutic.

Time
disappears,
noise
diminishes,
peace comes,
the
body relaxes
and
the artist within each of us
emerges.

"Kites" was composed and performed by Bruce
Lackie, PhD, as an invited response to this exhibit. As a trauma
therapist and former patient himself, he recognizes the importance
of the arts in healing the spirit. "Creating the song helped
me fly up and out the window of the hospital room, no strings attached,
not a frozen kite, but a free one." His song is dedicated to
Dr. Julius Newman -- plastic surgeon second, artist first -- of
Newark, New Jersey.
The collaborators invite you to consider your own
creative response, and to look for (or start!) programs in your
local community that bring the arts into the context of healing.
