JEFFSelects: AIDS and HIV

  • AEGIS (AIDS Education Global Information System)
    From the Sisters of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, a rich resource with over 480,000 documents online. The materials cover a broad range of news, treatment, prevention, general, patient group, coping and other types of information.

  • AIDSinfo Clinical Trials
    Search for NIH-funded clinical trials by category, drug or keyword.

  • HIV/AIDS Information (NLM)
    The Specialized Information Service (SIS) of the National Library of Medicine provides treatment information, drug overviews, clinical trial information, and consumer health information on HIV and AIDS. Additionally, links are provided to NLM databases, Web sites, and funding resources for HIV and AIDS research and community outreach.
  • The Body (Body Health Resources Corporation)
    A "multimedia" site which has basic information about treatment, quality of life, and conferences. Also available are net forums, expert columns, and links to other internet resources.
  • CDC National Prevention Information Network
    The CDC NPIN and its parent, the CDC National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention, contain a wide range of information about funding, statistical data, government reports, treatment information, and more. Some information is available in Spanish.
  • Critical Path Aids Project (Critical Path Aids Project)
    Founded by persons with AIDS and based in Philadelphia, this site contains information for professionals and consumers. Resource includes information about regional resources, treatment, publications, prevention, research, organizations worldwide, and news bulletins.
  • Global HIV/AIDS & STD Surveillance--WHO UNAID
    Contains reports and fact sheets about the global scope of aids. Reports and tables are available in English, French, and Spanish.
  • Glossary of HIV/AIDS Related Terms
    Sponsored by six different government agencies this resource includes a dictionary of HIV terms and links to the "AIDS Daily Summary" and other Internet links.

  • HIV and AIDS (US Food and Drug Administration - USFDA)
    The FDA's site includes treatment and drug information, speeches, full text of articles, meeting notices, and links to other Internet resources.
  • HIV Insite (UCSF)
    Wide range of reviewed materials which such as a textbook on HIV, treatment guidelines, statistical data, key topic materials, and prevention, government reports, and more.
  • The HIV Postexposure Prophylaxis Registry: Final Report (CDC)
    From 1996 to 1998, the CDC operated a surveillance program to collect safety information on the use of antiretroviral drugs for health-care workers who received postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) following occupational HIV exposure. The report includes data and conclusions drawn. Adobe Acrobat reader required.

  • AIDSinfo (DHHS)
    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers an HIV/AIDS Education & Resource Center, for guidelines, drug information, news releases, clinical trials, and more. A "live help" option offers real time answers to consumer questions.
  • HIV Structural Database (NIST)
    The HIVSDB holdings include structural data from the Protein Data Bank, but it also contains structural data supplied directly from industrial and other laboratories. In addition, value added data for each entry is provided through the annotation process that is obtained from disparate sources. The goal is to provide those investigating AIDS drug targets a centralized structural data resource. Contents include the citation and abstract for the data when available; validation data such as R-factor or resolution; unit cell parameters; crystallization data; IUPAC name of fragments of the inhibitor.

  • International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (IAPAC)
    IAPAC seeks "to [maximize] the survival and quality of life of all people affected by HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses." Part of their strategy includes this web site which provides information for both professionals and consumers. Materials include conference notices and reports, pharmaceutical news, nutritional information, employment opportunities, publications, information about women's health, and more.
  • National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease - Division of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (DAIDS)
    Contains conference summaries, DAID-supported program information, publications, and research links.
