Thomas Jefferson University's subscription to the Community of Science Funding Alerts service entitles Jeffersonians to a COS Workbench account. Use your Workbench to define the topics for weekly alerts.
My Profile
Although Jefferson doesn't have an institutional subscription to the Expertise portion of COS, you may use the MyProfile service in your Workbench account to add your CV to the COS Expertise database. It's an effective way to promote yourself and your work at no charge. If you have questions about how to enter your material, request a consultation with an AISR librarian.
Why maintain a COS Expertise Profile?
Individual members receive the following free services:
- Promote your research activities
Your research profile will be part of the Community of Science Expertise database, an international database of almost 500,000 profiles from universities, research and development institutions and corporations. Searchers at COS member institutions will be able to identify your experience and skills by searching the database. Your publications and patents may be linked to abstracts and, in some cases, to full-text articles.
- Create your own Web page
Each research profile serves as an individual faculty Web page; you may link to it from your departmental page. The Web address is in an easy-to-remember format: e.g. http://myprofile.cos.com/rkornbluth
While this may seem like double work, duplicating your Jefferson Faculty Interests Database entry, consider that maintaining a COS profile includes you in a database of almost 500,000 researchers, where corporate and institutional subscribers can find you when searching for experts in your field.
- Generate a CV
Use the easy online form to generate a formatted CV from the contents of your workbench' profile.
- Search Databases
The Community of Science provides several databases accessible only from your Workbench, including Funded Research, and Meetings and Conferences. Funded Research allows you to track current research and learn who is working on research projects funded by the NIH, NSF, USDA, SBIR, and MRC-UK.
Of course, the full COS Funding Opportunities database is available from your Workbench.
- Access Funding News
Read the weekly COS Funding News to view selected newly available and updated research grants from your Workbench.
