Professionalism at Jefferson Medical College
Jefferson Medical College Third and Fourth Year Students
Welcome
This site is meant to serve as guidance for JMC Third and Fourth Year students for matters relating to professional behavior. As we get closer to graduation and entering the field of medicine, professional behavior becomes more important in our daily lives -- in the way we interact with fellow students, colleagues (housestaff, nursing staff and attending physicians), as well as with patients.
However, these interactions may not always go as planned or you may encounter/witness unprofessional behavior -- in these cases, it is not always clear what is the best course of action. This site is meant to help provide you with the various options you have to address these concerns!
Clinical Years
During the clinical years each course has various contacts for support. In the third year (MSIII), each course has a Clerkship Director (for the entire clerkship), a Clerkship Director for the site, and Liaisons (your fellow classmates) -- all of these individuals can serve as contacts and venues for the expression of concerns.
For more on each rotation, see the Course Contacts link in the sidebar to the right.
Resources
The Student PCC has made available a variety of resources to help guide in case you have a concern and are unsure of how to handle it.
- Sample Cases - Available in Pulse
The Student PCC has posted sample cases depicting a variety of situations in which you may find yourself, and more importantly, the options that are available in these situations. If you can’t find a situation similar to the concern you may have, please refer to the other resources below or contact the Student PCC directly.
- How to Raise a Concern
This is a lot simpler for the preclinical years than for the clinical years, but in this link, the Student PCC outlines how you should approach each clinical situation and your successive options. Again, if this does not seem to apply to your concern, feel free to contact the Student PCC directly.
- Faculty Complaints: Coming Soon!
The Student PCC understands, that due to grading issues, complaints about faculty professionalism are not always easy to follow up on. When this section is completed, JMC students will be able to complete an online form regarding an incident involving a faculty member and then submit the form (anonymously, if preferred) directly to both the Student PCC and the Faculty PCC.
Contact Your Student PCC
If you continue to have concerns or are uncertain of what to do, please feel free to contact any member of the PCC or the Student PCC as a whole. Every effort is made to respond quickly and efficiently.
