PDA Hardware & Software

JEFFLINE's PDA Support Center includes hardware and software recommendations for Jefferson students, faculty and staff.

AISR Learning Resources staff are available for support of a variety of PDA models using the Palm operating system. Our JEFFLINE Forum 'zine runs regular articles on PDA issues; several of these have been accumulated as PDA tips. The Scott LRC also provides two workstations where students and faculty may download PDA applications for their handhelds (normal campus security systems may block such download on public workstations).

PELS: The Patient Encounter Log System

AISR has set up several PDA sync stations to support the Patient Encounter Log System (PELS) developed by Jeff-IT, the JMC Dean's Office, and the Center for Research in Medical Education and Health Care.

The Patient Encounter Project was introduced at Jefferson Medical College in 1994 to track students' experiences during their clinical clerkships. The goal is to assure that each student encounters diverse appropriately supervised patient-care activities. Beginning in their third year, medical students use a PDA-based program to record this information.

Data collection is managed by completing a "hot sync" session at one of the PELS Sync Stations on campus. AISR has set up several of these workstations at the locations listed below. Sync cables unique to specific manufacturers are available at some of the computing sites below. There are also InfraRed Sync Stations that support any IR-enabled device.
