PowerPoint Pearls: Using an Action to Play a Sound

Last Forum, I reviewed inserting a sound using the Insert, Sound… feature. This issue I'll show you how to create an action that will play your sound file when you click on an image.

The advantage of this technique it that it looks slick; the disadvantages are that the sound must be a .wav file and it can't be very large.

  1. Click on the image to select it.

  2. Select Slide Show, Action Settings… The Action Settings window will appear. Click the Play sound check box. The dropdown menu highlights. Select a sound from the list, or use the dropdown to select Other Sounds… This allows you to browse for a sound.

  1. When presenting, be sure to click on the image to play back the sound.
