Computerized Data Acquisition by Family Medicine Students in Rural Clinical Clerkships

ABSTRACT

A prototype data collection program has been used by students at the University of Missouri to collect information regarding patient encounters in the clinical clerkships. The laptop also provides a means of connection to medical abstract databases. The issues discussed include use of database menus to capture relevant clinical information, implementation of computer use in the clinical setting, computerized resources for clinical students and value of pre-clinical computer training for medical students.
