Measuring Student Perceptions of Electronic Communication

ABSTRACT

To better understand the impact of email usage on the lives of students and faculty, the authors developed a comprehensive survey to measure categories of use, perceived advantages and disadvantages to email, as well as the amount of use. The authors used traditional paper questionnaires as well as on-line electronic questionnaires to further enhance the accuracy of the study and their ability to collect data. The authors believe that the measurement of qualitative and quantitative aspects of e-mail use will provide valuable insights into the impact of e-mail on the academic community.
