ABSTRACT

Workshop participants will have a Newton to share between two participants. The Message Pad will be loaded with the application created at Cornell by Aaron Giles and Greg Lampe. The main focus is to see how it can be used to enter, record and track patients on the ward, in the clinic and after discharge. This includes entry and access to medications and lab results. Uploading, downloading and printing are all issues of importance and will be addressed as the pros and cons of this new personal assistant are explored. If you have a Newton bring it and advise us so we can accommodate more people. Deliver it in the morning, so we can load the software onto it. Bring some patient info and data to enter so you can try it yourself.

Since September 1993 the Department of Medicine has been evaluating the Newton as a useful tool for keeping track of patient information on the wards. The Newton for application development has been used to create a menu driven entry form for patient data. A demonstration of the program as well as the benefits and limitations will be provided.
