Anatomy-PC is a growing collection of stand-alone units, each designed to present a self-paced, interactive tutorial, self-test or problem-based learning exercise covering a selected topic in one of the anatomical sciences. The individual units of Anatomy-PC were created with ToolBook, an established, full-featured, object-oriented authoring system for the Microsoft Windows environment and have been used to supplement or replace traditional lectures or laboratory exercises as well as to review course content and provide students with cognitive strategies for organizing and learning material. Each unit of Anatomy-PC was designed to actively engage the students in the learning process by directing them to interact both physically (using the hand-held mouse) and mentally with high quality digital images (x-rays, CAT scans, MRIs or micrographs), color graphics (drawings) and text displayed on a single standard VGA color monitor.
