CARDIAX(tm) [Computer-Aided Review of Diagnosis Involving Auscultation, X-ray and EKG] is the result of a collaborative effort between Dr. Richard D. Judge and the University of Michigan Medical School Learning Resource Center's Medical Instructional Computing Group and Media Services Unit. The project team has created a Macintosh-based, Authorware Professional(tm) multimedia program which combines text with digitized sound, images (such as chest x-rays and EKGs), MacroMind Director(tm) animations, and QuickTime video movies for teaching low cost, low tech cardiac diagnosis. The software was designed to replace a paper and pencil type exercise currently given to all third year students as part of their general medicine clerkship. The patient case being highlighted in this demonstration (Mrs F) is a 59 year old woman presenting with chest pain; the CARDIAX(tm) series will ultimately consist of twelve cases, forming a matrix of the most common cardiac chief complaints and diagnoses.
