This presentation describes how we are using multimedia to significantly change the way we teach histology to medical students. Changes include extensive use of histology images stored on videodisc; elimination of microscopes, microscope slide sets, and the traditional microscope laboratory; changes in examination procedures; and a shift in emphasis from individualized to group instruction. Re-purposing of the videodisc images for specific needs using customized computer software programs is shown.
