As increasing numbers of women pursue research careers in the sciences, many who have children discover the challenges of balancing a professional life with the demands of motherhood. Although this issue affects the careers of women scientists, it is rarely discussed as a professional concern. Emily Monosson, an independent toxicologist, has assembled a group of 34 women scientists from overlapping generations and across disciplines to share their experiences.
