Disability awareness day reported in the A.D.A. Compliance Guide

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

The Americans With Disabilities Act swims in a vast sea of rules and regulations; information about them is updated each month in Thompson’s A.D.A. Compliance Guide. Also included is a monthly newsletter, and it often has items of interest to the medical community.

A news brief in the June issue notes that Rowan University, in South Jersey, held a recent Disability Awareness Day. The University president and a vice president for facilities operations were selected by students to spend the day in wheelchairs.

The Whit Online, Rowan’s independent student newspaper, covered the event in their May 1 edition. The day ended with a showing of the Academy Award winning documentary King Gimp, a film about the experiences of a young man with cerebral palsy. Jeffersonians can view it online on the AISR Media Server – just sign in with your campus key. You can also borrow it from the LRC in either DVD or VHS format.
