Jefferson's institutional membership in BioMed Central (BMC) will end this summer; changes in BMC's subscription plan now price it beyond our reach. This means that Jefferson authors will no longer be subsidized when submitting articles, and BMC will assess regular author page fees.
While the new pricing is disappointing, BioMed Central journals do remain an excellent publishing venue for open access to your articles. With over 150 topical journals, good review turnaround time, and strong exposure in indexing tools, BMC journals are still worth your consideration.
More and more BMC journals are being selected for ranking and calculation of impact factor by Thomson Scientific's Journal Citation Report. Here is a sampling from the most recent rankings available:

BMC says the changes in its subscription structure are, in fact, a reflection of its success as an open access publisher. Their original structure was based on a small number of articles coming from each member institution. Now that submission rates have increased substantially, they have had to make changes in order to remain viable.
