I am sure that many of you have found very nice content on the web that you would like to use in a class or presentation. And a number of you may have liked it enough to ask the owner for permission to use it. But, if your experience is the same as mine, you have never received a single response - positive or negative.

My solution to this dilemma is to create a hyperlink to the web page. This is very easy to accomplish in PowerPoint. PowerPoint allows you to hyperlink text, graphics or autoshapes.

To create a link to a web page:

1. Insert a graphic or Autoshape to act as the icon for hyperlinking.
2. Click on the graphic or Autoshape to select it.
3. Click on Insert, Hyperlink… The Insert Hyperlink window will appear.
4. Click on Existing File or Web Page. Type the URL into the textbox, or use the Browse the Web button to search the Internet.
5. Click on the OK button.

NB: Here are a few tips to follow when you present using web links

• Use your link to open the Internet browser and ensure that the connection and host server are operational. It is better to know that the link may fail in advance of your presentation.
• Do not close the browser window once you have checked the functionality of the target site. This will significantly reduce wait time during your presentation.
• Be sure you are confident in navigating back to PowerPoint.
