Vietnam, War & Medicine:
A New Exhibit at Scott Library

Through the end of April 2005, visitors to the 1st floor of Scott Memorial Library are invited to browse and borrow from a special exhibit of circulating books pertaining to the subjects of Vietnam, War and Medicine.

This exhibit, like many events with similar themes found around the Philadelphia region, is just one way Thomas Jefferson University supports One Book, One Philadelphia, a reading project sponsored by the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Office of Mayor John Street. The One Book project aims to promote reading and discussion of a selected book. This year's selection was Tim O'Brien's award-winning book The Things They Carried, a collection of inter-related stories about the Vietnam War experience of the author and his companions.

Scott Memorial Library's exhibit includes copies of The Things They Carried for check out and expounds on general veterans' issues found in the book, with a focus on topics of interest to health care professionals and students. Some of the areas of interest for health care providers concerning veterans' health include: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), effects of exposure to environmental and endemic hazards, infectious disease, physical disability, reproductive health, and neurological effects of service.

The library invites you to come to the first floor exhibit over the month to check out the books about Veterans' issues, and then to go ahead and really check them out!
