Art @ Scott Library

Refresh your spirit with art at Scott Library and on JEFFLINE! The popular Aerobics of the Spirit exhibit, recently on display in the Library and Jefferson Alumni Hall, has migrated to an online exhibit space on JEFFLINE.

Aerobics of the Spirit is a collaborative exhibit, consisting of art by Mary Anne Bartley, and poetry by Emanuel E. Garcia, MD, with incidental music by Bruce Lackie, PhD. It celebrates the healing powers of art and pays homage to individual healers, including Jefferson's own John Y. Templeton, III, MD, the former Samuel D. Gross Professor of Surgery. Artist Bartley has made a gift to the University of Homage to John Y. Templeton, III.

Visitors to the Jefferson Alumni Hall installation were entertained by the display of healing kites suspended from the ceiling of the main hall. Visitors to the gallery area of the Library enjoyed the energy of the artwork. Drawing on this success, Scott Library has now embarked on a series of art shows featuring the work of local artists. Some of those shows will eventually join Aerobics of the Spirit in JEFFLINE's online gallery, as well, where their reach can extend beyond the walls of the Scott Building.

On display through the end of April is work by Ilaria Arpino, an Italian artist transplanted to Philadelphia. Her oils on canvas emphasize life's simple shapes and complex layers. Look for the display on the second floor of Scott Memorial Library.
