Recently, the library installed a Suggestion Box on the 2nd floor. Here are some of the suggestions we've received along with our responses.
Suggestion: I was wondering if it is possible to loan out Ethernet cards to people who don't have the wireless card so that we can use our laptops elsewhere in the library.
Response: While we don't loan out Ethernet cards, we do loan out laptops to library users that are configured to connect to the wireless network. These laptops can be checked out in the Scott Learning Resource Center on the third floor.
S: Please allow those who are not a part of Jefferson to have more access than four times a month.
R: We appreciate the compliment that you want to visit us often. If you find that you need to use the library's resources more than four times per month, you are welcome to purchase a membership to the library.
S: A public fax machine would be much appreciated, since there is only one photocopy/fax shop nearby and it is only open Monday-Friday from 9-5.
R: We are not able to provide this service at this time.
S: Security personnel are very very noisy at the Front Desk at night; lots of bantering and visitors. The noise filters throughout the second floor.
R: Thank you for alerting us to this. Both Security and Housekeeping have been notified of this issue and have asked their staff to be aware of the fact that their voices carry throughout the building.
S: Please purchase Motor Trend magazine for the Browsing Room Collection.
R: The Browsing Room Collection (books and magazines) on the First Floor are purchased with endowment funds each year. We are in the process of selecting titles for 2005 and will add your request to the list. You've requested it at just the right time!
S: Please post a “Quiet Floor” sign on the Fourth Floor.
R: Thanks for the idea. We'll do that.
S: You should sell the mugs here since you have to have them here.
R: Last year, when we instituted the Food and Beverage policy, we investigated selling the mugs in the Library. Due to tax collection rules and several other factors (lack of storage space was a big factor), it was decided that the Bookstore was the best outlet for everyone concerned.
S: Open earlier on Saturday (8:30-9:00).
R: Last year, at the request of the Student Government group, we surveyed users and use patterns in the library on weekends and agreed to adjust our hours and remain open later on Saturdays. Regretfully, due to staffing issues, we are unable to do both. Please feel free to use the library's first and fourth floors 24 hours a day.
