Software Sides: What's New in the
Learning Resources Centers?

This new series will introduce and review educational software available in the AISR Learning Resources Centers.

The Infant Patient Encounter was developed by AISR Education Services, with Jefferson Faculty members Lindsey Lane and Ruth Gottlieb, and is the first in a series of CD-ROMs designed to teach health care professionals patient interview and physical examination skills.

The Infant Patient Encounter demonstrates effective ways to approach pediatric patients, interview their caregivers, and perform a complete infant examination.

The software contains video clips, animations, heart sounds, and photos.

The Infant Patient Encounter makes a difference with:

  • Video clips contrasting effective and ineffective history-taking examples to teach viewers proper interview techniques

  • Physical examination techniques clearly explained and demonstrated with video and animations

  • Commentary throughout that provides the rationale behind the interviewing and physical examination techniques

  • Key Points and Key Questions: summarizing important concepts and listing the basic interviewing questions

  • Numerous guides and growth charts that prepare viewers for their interaction with these real-world clinical tools

  • An Anatomy Review that provides helpful reminders and tips that improve the examination

  • Workbook questions to help viewers apply their knowledge to each scenario

  • A Post-Test to quiz viewers on their mastery of the information
