Over the past few weeks a number of new quality knowledge-based resources have been added to JEFFLINE. These include electronic books and journals, and text and image databases.
Our already large and diverse collection of over 1,200 electronic journals was enhanced by the addition of 3 new Cell Press titles: Cancer Cell, Developmental Cell and Structure. Another Cell Press title, Current Biology, which has been available in print since its start in 1991, is also a new menu selection in the Cyber Café. And for those of you who like your journals aged-to-perfection, the Café now offers complete back files of the Cell Press titles published before 1994.
By very popular demand Science Magazine (AAAS), including current issues and back files dating from October 1995, has been added to the Cyber Café. There will be no waiting in line or sellouts for this title as there is no limit to the number of simultaneous users. Enjoy!
But wait, there's more! Have you been hungry for some Nature Reviews? Well we have five flavors to offer you: Cancer, Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Cell Biology and Neuroscience.
From book stacks to the bench, three Current Protocol titles are now available on JEFFLINE. You can now get direct access from your lab, office or classroom to the protocols you need in Human Genetics, Immunology and Molecular Biology.
The new electronic book selections cover a broad range of disciplines from nursing to basic sciences to clinical medicine. You can now find the following titles in the familiar Stat!Ref collection of electronic texts: The ICU Book, Dictionary of Medical Acronyms & Abbreviations, Nursing Diagnosis Reference Manual and two additional nursing texts.
AccessMedicine is a collection of basic science and clinical reference electronic texts that includes the old favorites Harrison's Online, Hurst's The Heart and Metabolic and Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease. In addition to these classic clinical titles you can also order CMDTonline (Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment). The AccessLange portion of AM has two menus of ten titles each containing basic science titles and additional clinical ones. Your choices here include: Harper's Biochemistry, Ganong's Review of Medical Physiology, and Jawetz, Melnick, & Adelberg's Medical Microbiology, or, if you're looking for a clinical flavor, try Smith's General Urology, Greenspan's Basic and Clinical Endocrinology or one of the six Current Diagnosis & Treatment titles. If you favor a buffet instead of choosing just one of the AM offerings, you can conduct a search across all of the publications. To top it all off, for dessert you can try Diagnosaurus, a free differential diagnosis tool for your PDA.
For something completely different JEFFLINE now offers some unique, special resources. BioMed Central, the leader in Open Access publishing, hosts Faculty of 1,000 Biology, an online research service that reviews the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of over 1,000 selected leading researchers. This service highlights papers on the basis of their scientific merit, rather than the journal they appear in, and offers ratings by the author's peers. BMC also produces images.MD, a keyword-searchable collection of over 50,000 full-sized, high-quality medical images related to the latest developments in medicine.
Last, but certainly not least, is PIER (Physicians Information and Education Resource) created by the American College of Physicians and available through the Stat!Ref portal. This is a decision-support tool designed for rapid point-of-care delivery of evidence-based guidance for physicians. Modules focus on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases with several subcategories like prevention, screening, patient education and drug and non-drug therapy.
So, with so many selections to choose from, where will you start the next time you're hungry for information and log-on to JEFFLINE?
