The National Center for Biotechnology Information has introduced a new global search engine to allow searching across all of NCBI's Entrez databases at once. Users can access the global search engine from the PubMed homepage:
The Cross-Database Search Page:
Enter one or more search terms in the search box and click 'GO' to search all the databases simultaneously.
The number of hits for each database will be displayed on the results page. Click the database icon to display the results for that database. If no hits were found in a database the word "none" will appear next to the database icon.
Currently there is no documentation on how the global search engine translates the search statement, but it most likely uses the same algorithm used when searching PubMed. The global search engine will search a combination of MeSH and natural text.
Note: Alternatively, an experienced user may bypass entering a search and use the cross-database search page for convenient access to all of the Entrez databases. Clicking on any database icon will take you directly to the search page in that database, allowing you to utilize the full capabilities of Entrez.
