Free Library of Philadelphia Services Include
Online Resources

When Scott Library doesn’t have the materials you need, especially in areas of social sciences, humanities, business & finance, consider what the Free Library of Philadelphia has to offer.

What will you find online?

Thousands of e-books, e-journals and databases. Many of the full-text resources and many more can be reached via the Internet, from your home, office or a library computer:

  • Business Source – full-text journal & newspaper literature in the fields of business and finance.
  • Health Source – both Consumer and Nursing Academic Editions, covering over 700 popular and scholarly full text journals in general health, nutrition, and professional health care.
  • InfoTrac Onefile – literally millions of full text news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics in business, computers, current events, economics, education and more.
  • National Newspaper Index and Newspaper Source – for coverage of daily US and international news.
  • NetLibrary – e-books in a broad variety of topics.
  • TDNet – access to over 8,000 full-text journals, magazines and newsletters.
There’s more if you visit in person

Not everything can be online. While many of the databases are available over the Internet, others are accessible only from certain locations. The Central Library, at 1901 Vine Street, hosts all programs and is within walking distance of campus.

  • The Free Library’s Regional Foundation Center, with access to the Foundation Center funding databases, is a rich resource for Jefferson researchers.
  • PsycArticles – 42 full-text journals published by the APA and allied organizations.
  • Statistical Universe – facts and data.
  • Thomson Research – background information about specific companies, both domestic and international.
How do you qualify?

This public library offers access to “anyone who lives, works, pays taxes, or goes to school in Philadelphia.” Out of state residents may buy a card for an annual fee of $15. A library card is necessary for borrowing materials. The card and a PIN are required by many of the databases.

To obtain a library card and PIN, complete the online application, or take proof of City residence or a pay stub showing the Philadelphia wage tax to any Free Library branch. The Independence Branch is closest to Jefferson, at 18 S. 7th Street.

A convenient link to the Free Library of Philadelphia’s list of electronic resources is available on JEFFLINE’s list of all databases.
