Google Tip: Glossary Searching

In the October 2003 issue of the JEFFLINE Forum I wrote about synonym searching in Google. The popular search engine has now developed a new glossary search.

Single words can be searched using the following syntax: define:searchterm.
For example: define:MeSH

For phrase searching that works consistently, a better alternative is the test version of the Google Glossary.

The glossary recommends related phrases and offers a brief definition of the term being searched.

Why is the Google glossary, or for that matter any glossary, helpful? Glossaries are a great resource to help you understand unfamiliar terms and learn new terminology when researching a topic.
