Updating APA Output Style in
Reference Manager 9.x Or Above

While Reference Manager Version 10 uses the most recent version of APA output style (American Psychological Association, 5th edition), older versions (9.x or above) of RM run the 4th edition of APA. How can you update your 4th edition of APA in version 9.x of Reference Manager?

  1. Go to: http://lists.adeptscience.co.uk/refman/. This discussion list, maintained by ISI ResearchSoft, permits users to exchange tips, search strategies, and other information. The site also allows you to download a variety of output styles. To use the site users must complete the free registration. The site offers an archive of hot topics and active topics.

Note: This site does take a long time to load. Please be patient.

  2. After registering, you will enter the site using your email address.

  3. Click on the Downloads tab.

  4. Select Reference Manager.

  5. Scroll down the page and you will see a section to download output styles for RM version 9.x and above. Click on Download Now.

  6. Click on Download my file now.

  7. A second window will open with a variety of output styles.

  8. Select Filtering Options.

  9. Select Psychology from the pull-down menu.

  10. Click on Filter Files.

  11. Click on FTP next to American Psychological Association 5th edition.

  12. Save the file in the Styles folder within your RM version 9.x. This is probably on your hard drive (C:). (From the Desktop select: My Computer/Local Drive (C:)/Program Files/RM-9.x/Styles)

The next time you open RM version 9.x or above, APA 5th edition will be available as an output style.
