New Index Terms for PsycINFO Database

The PsycINFO database, produced by the American Psychological Association, is available through OVID on JEFFLINE and it covers:

journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports, all in the fields of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and law. (Ovid PsychINFO Field Guide.)

PsychINFO records are indexed using the Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms, 9th edition, which has just added 137 new terms. These new terms are applied to records entered into the database beginning June 2003.

Some of the new terms include:

  • Ageism
  • Bullying
  • Cannibalism
  • Children of Alcoholics
  • Cloning
  • Distance Education
  • Hate Crimes
  • Hoarding Behavior
  • Fuzzy Logic
  • Tardiness
  • Williams Syndrome
The 10th edition of the Thesaurus is scheduled for publication in 2004.
