Shrinking Those Long URLs

Are you tired of posting or sending emails with very long web addresses (urls)? For example, when you send a friend a map of your neighborhood using MapQuest,the web address looks like this:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&address=1020+walnut+st&city=philadelphia&state=pa&zipcode=&homesubmit=Get+Map

A great solution is to use the free, url-shortening service at TinyURL.com. Their motto is “Making long URLs postable!”

  1. Go to http://TinyURL.com
  2. Copy your long URL by highlighting it and pressing Control and C.
  3. Paste the long URL into the conversion box by pressing Control and V.
  4. Click on Make TinyURL!

The long URL is converted into a tiny URL such as the one below:

SnipURL is a another web site that performs a similar function:

Why cut and paste long urls? Shorter URLs are much easier to manipulate, post, and email.
