One of the more frequent requests at the Reference Desk is for help using THOMCAT to locate an item in the Methods in Molecular Biology series. This series consists of individual book titles that are shelved in the 4th Floor Stacks.

The easiest way to find an item in a numbered series is to enter the series title and the volume number into the search box and click the Series button. (Be sure that Keyword is selected.)

NOTE: If you don't include the volume number in your search you will retrieve all of the titles in this series (over 200).

If you enter Methods in Molecular Biology and click Periodical Title, rather than Series, you will retrieve a single record (see below) listing all of the volumes in this series owned by Scott Library. Since each volume is cataloged separately (i.e., has a different Call Number) this record will not help you to locate a specific volume.
