JEFFLINE's Newest Community - Nurses

The newest JEFFLINE community debuts this month in celebration of Nurses Week. The product of on-going collaborative efforts between clinical nurse specialists, nurse educators and AISR staff, the Nurses Community presents knowledge resources for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital nurses in a single, easy-to-navigate site.

The site features quick access to full-text resources, databases, Web resources, and information about continuing nursing education. Resources include:

  • Books, such as Fischbach's Manual of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests;
  • Journals, such as the American Journal of Nursing, and RN;
  • Databases via direct connection (no login), including CINAHL, ERIC, HaPI and more;
  • Major consumer health information sites on the Internet;
  • Announcements of upcoming CE opportunities at Jefferson and beyond, as well as a special link to the Annual Education Review for all nurses;
  • AISR services and support for nurses, such as databases searches, online help, and training workshops;
  • Professional resources on the Web, including nursing associations, standards and guidelines.

The new site will be unveiled during Nurses Week, May 6-10, with posters and workshops for nursing staff. Nurses will be able to visit the site from a link in the TJUH Intranet, or from the JEFFLINE homepage. Off-campus access will be available to holders of valid JEFFLINE passwords.

The Nurses Community is just the latest in a series of collaborations, which have produced special sets of resources for unique groups. Community pages offer an alternative route into JEFFLINE for those groups, so they can focus on just those resources, which are relevant. The Community for JMC Students, for example, includes student council information, student guides, and links to campus support offices in addition to library tools and services for students. The Methodist Community provides a Web site for the Methodist's Piccone Memorial Library, in addition to JEFFLINE resources for Methodist staff.

Representative committees advise AISR staff about tools and services for their communities of users. To inquire about community organization or committees, contact Ann Koopman, JEFFLINE Editor, ann.koopman@mail.tju.edu or 215-503-0441.
