NEW: Publication Manual of the
APA 5th Edition

The new Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th edition print version, is available in the Ready Reference area on the second floor of the Scott Memorial Library.

Location: Ready Reference Section 11. Call Number: WZ345 A512p 2001

A few of the changes from the 4th to the 5th edition include:

3.30: Headings: A new paragraph clarifies that APA's heading style consists of five possible formatting arrangements according to the number of levels of subordination. Although each level is numbered, the specific levels used are not necessarily consecutive.

3.80: Submitting figures in an electronic form: Guidelines are now provided for file type and resolution for line art, halftones, and combination halftones.

3.102: Personal communication: Now includes nonarchived discussion groups and personal interviews.

5.18: References: Revised to reintroduce the hanging indent, with the first line flush left and the subsequent lines indented. (Indicates that it is permissible to use the paragraph indent if the hanging indent is difficult to accomplish with the author's word-processing software.)
