The Browsing Corner

Welcome to the Browsing Corner! Each month there will be reviews of the books in our BROWSING ROOM COLLECTION, which is located on the first floor of the library.

The reviews will consist of five different genres: Fiction, non-fiction, biography, romance and health/fitness awareness.

There will also be an alternating spotlight section each month, featuring an author or a book from a different genre. (I.e. suspense, history, sci-fi, etc.)

FICTION
Beattie, Ann       The Doctor's House

Every family has its secrets, and Dr. Andrew's family seems to be more obsessed with his lifestyle then he. This interesting novel deals with a family's struggle to know the truth about one of its members.

Other titles by this author include: Perfect Recall and My Life Starring Dara Falcon.

NON-FICTION
Fowler, Connie May       When Katie Wakes : A Memoir

This is the personal story of the author's history of abuse and torment from both her mother and husband. Salvation and strength came in the form of a Labrador puppy named Katie. This is a story of endurance and survival through the most horrible times in one's life.

Other titles by this author include: Before Women had Wings and Remembering Blue.

ROMANCE
Greeley, Andrew M.       Irish Mist

The adventure never seems to stop with this vivacious young couple. Nuala finally agrees to marry Dermot, but then trouble soon begins to follow them. Nuala's spells, or intuitions of past events in Irish history, are ceasing their plans for marriage.

Another title by this author is Irish Lace.

HEALTH /FITNESS AWARENESS
Rosenfeld, Isadore       Power to the Patient: The Vital Information you need to Regain Control of your Health Care

Dr. Rosenfeld speaks about the forty most common ailments affecting people today. Everything from acne to Parkinson's disease is covered in this book. Rosenfeld lets the readers know what questions to ask, and how to get the most out of a doctor visit.

Another title by this author is Live Now, Age Later.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY
McCourt, Frank       'Tis: a memoir

After his success with Angela Ashes, McCourt begins this novel starting with his return to America as a young adult. Yearning for an education, and a life worth living, McCourt attends New York University and plans out his future in this hustle and bustle society.

Another title by this author is Angela Ashes, which was made into a movie as well.

THE FEATURED CATEGORY OF THE MONTH IS SUSPENSE

SUSPENSE
McInerny, Ralph       Emerald Aisle: A Notre Dame Mystery

When a formerly betrothed couple decide to marry the same day and at the same chapel within the University, someone is found strangled, and it is up to Professor Knight, and his private investigator brother to solve it.

Ralph McInerny also writes the Father Dowling mysteries, Andrew Broom mysteries, as well as the Mysteries set at the University of Notre Dame.
