Expanded Laser Printing in the
Library and Jeff Hall
The Library now provides networked laser printing from the computers on the 1st and 2nd floors of the library and in the Computer Lab in 311 Jefferson Alumni Hall. You can send printing requests from these public computers to nearby printing release stations. The printing release stations are standalone computers that process the printing jobs directed to each Laser printer. Each station is equipped with a Danyl vendacard reader.

Finding the laser printers:

First floor Scott

The printing release station is where the computer directly connected to the Laser printer used to be. This PC has a screen saver with the Pharos symbol (lighted torch) that dances around the screen. Simply move the mouse to deactivate the screen saver.

Requests sent from the 1st floor of the Scott Building can be picked up on the 2nd floor and vice versa.

The Danyl vendacard reader is to the right of the release station.

Second floor Scott

The printing release station is in the Reference area. This PC should always display the Pharos front screen asking you to insert your card.

The Danyl vendacard reader is to the right of the release station.

Computer Lab: 311 Jeff Hall

The printing release station is on the table to the left as you enter the lab. The screen on this station displays the Pharos screen asking for your vendacard. Only computers in the 311 lab can print to this station.

The Danyl vendacard reader is to the left of the release station.

Please note: You will NOT be able to print from the computer sitting in the entrance to the Jeff Hall Lab.

Sending a printing request:

You can send your document to the Laser printer from any workstation in these three areas.

From the File menu, select Print. Select the laser printer and click Ok.

The PHAROS Popup Client screen will appear:

Enter your name in the first box.

Entering the name of the job and password are optional, but I highly recommend that you do so to prevent someone else from printing your job by accident.

Passwords ARE case-sensitive. You'll see the password when you enter it at the sending station, but when you enter the password at the printing release station you'll only see **** symbols.

Paying for your prints:

Documents are ten cents per page and are paid for by using the Danyl vendacard reader. If you don't have enough value on your vendacard, you'll need to get it increased, because you won't be able to do a partial print.

Jobs will be held in the queue for 2 hours so you can always return for your print jobs within that time period.

Picking up your document:

At the release station, insert your card into the Danyl card reader and wait for the list of jobs to appear. This will normally take 10 seconds, but it could take longer if the network is busy. Please be patient.

When the list of print jobs appears on the screen, select yours, and click on the print button.

Directly above the Account Balance window, it will tell you how much will be deducted for your print job. Pay close attention to how many pages it says are going to print. Web "pages" are often much longer than most people realize. If you need assistance in reducing the number of pages, please ask for help.

The next screen that will appear is the password screen, if you've chosen to use a password.

Again, remember that the password IS case-sensitive and you will not see it displayed in this window. Be prepared for a short delay when printing. Please be patient.

When your job is finished printing, click the Log Off button. The Danyl card reader will then release your card.
