AISR's Learning Resources Center (307 Scott) now has a CD Writer available. Paul and Tiby from the LRC reported that several users needed a way to save presentations and did not have access to a Zip drive. The CD Writer will allow users to save their presentations to a Read-Write CD or write once to an inexpensive CD-R disk. Bought in bulk or on sale, CD-R disks are often under $.39 or even free, after rebate.
Though the drive will work with CD-RW disks, these media can be unreliable at fast speeds in other machines. If you are using CD-RW disks please be sure to test that your "end" use machine will read the disk before you need to use it. There shouldn't be any trouble with the CD-R disks.
The new unit is an external one, connecting by USB, so it is slower than an internal drive. It is quick and easy to connect and the NERO Burning ROM software that came with it is very easy to use. The LRC staff is always happy to help out, so please let them know if you would like to use the CD Writer, or if you have any questions about LRC services.
