OVID OpenLinks

WHAT IS OVID OPENLINKS?

OVID OpenLinks offers additional full-text articles in many OVID bibliographic databases including: MEDLINE, CINAHL and PsycINFO. Use OVID OpenLinks to link from database search results to full-text journal articles located on remote publishers' Web sites. Clicking on OVID OpenLinks sends you from OVID to an external Web site. Dozens of publishers and hundreds of journals participate.

Difference Between Journals@OVID and OVID OpenLinks

Search the Journals@OVID Full Text database for articles in OVID's own collection of journals. Only 4 dozen journals are available in full text.

Be aware that the limit to full text available only returns Journals@OVID citations and will eliminate OVID OpenLinks.

EXAMPLES

Link names differ by publisher. Some common examples:

OpenLink Full Text (HTML)
Click on OpenLink Full Text (HTML) to open a new window with the full-text article in Cell.

OpenLink Full Text (PDF)
Click on OpenLink Full Text (PDF) to open a new window with the Portable Document Format in Biochemical Genetics.

Journal Website
Click on Journal Website to open a new window to Emerging Infectious Diseases. The Journal Web site link does not go directly to the full-text article. Once in the journal site, navigate or search to locate the article.

OpenLink Full Text (CrossRef)
Click on OpenLink Full Text (CrossRef) to open a new window with the full-text article in Addictive Behaviors.

Records may have more than one link

Click on the OVID OpenLink hyperlink; if the second window with the full-text article does not appear, it probably was loaded (or still loading) within another window hiding behind the ones you see. Check your toolbar or use the ALT-TAB keys to see if there is another browser window open. To avoid the problem next time, close the extra windows.

PLEASE NOTE: Occasionally, a site's response time might be slow, or the site might be unavailable. Overloaded networks, slow network links, or the large size of full text files can affect performance. Try accessing the files at times when Internet traffic is light: early in the morning, late at night, or on weekends.
