For students who would like to add research experience to their Jefferson education,a new JEFFLINE module describes student research opportunities and funding sources. The Student Research pages are linked from the JEFFLINE Communities for Students and Researchers.
The JEFFLINE Student Research pages list TJU research programs available to all qualified students, as well as those restricted to Jefferson Medical College students. It describes resources for identifying researchers on campus, such as the Community of Science Expertise database, departmental web pages, and databases of citations and funded research.
Funding search links make it easy for students to browse all Community of Science funding opportunities for undergraduates or graduate and medical students. These searches can be limited further to specific types of funding or research topics. The site also informs students how to sign up for weekly email notices of new funding opportunities.
A recent survey of medical students interested in research by Dr. Bernard Lopez, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Career Counseling in the Medical College, revealed that students considered participating in research a way to make contacts within a clinical department, improve their C.V.s, learn the research process and explore a research question. The Office of Student Affairs plans to develop a JMC Student Research Committee and an educational research program for students.
For further information on research funding, please contact the Grants Information Service of Scott Memorial Library. JMC faculty who are interested in learning more about participating in student research projects should contact Dr. Lopez in the Office of Student Affairs and Career Counseling at 215-503-6988 (email Bernard.Lopez@mail.tju.edu).
