PubMed Central
PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine. All access to PubMed Central is free. Currently the site offers an archive to nine journals with ten more forthcoming.

PubMed Central is an alternative publishing model that Jefferson supports. In addition to accessing the journals via the PubMed Central web site, the journals are also accessible through the Cyber Café. As more journals become available they will appear in the Cyber Café. PubMed Central is a new publishing model and with this new model come caveats. In some cases, the most recent issue of a given title will not be available. Moreover, there may be gaps in coverage. Nevertheless, this is a free resource for full-text journal articles.

Current available journals

Forthcoming journals that will be added include:

  • Biochemical Journal
  • Canadian Medical Association Journal
  • Current Controlled Trials in Cardiovascular Medicine
  • EMBO Journal
  • Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA)
  • Journal of Medical Entomology
  • Nucleic Acids Research
  • The Plant Cell
  • Plant Physiology
  • Respiratory Research
PubMed Central is a digital archive that aims to collect data from diverse sources in a common format in a single repository. Offering cross-linking to a complete collection will allow for quick full-text literature searching regardless of its source.

How is PubMed Central different from PubMed?
PubMed is a web-based literature retrieval system that contains citations and abstracts from thousands of journals, dating back to 1966. It also includes links to full-text articles in PubMed Central and at more than 1600 journal websites.

PubMed Central is an electronic archive for full-text journal articles, offering unrestricted access to its contents. Every full-text article in PubMed Central has a corresponding entry in PubMed.
