March Madness
No, Jefferson doesn't have a basketball team going to the playoffs - this March Madness is for the JMC class of 2001 Match Day!

In 2000, 93 percent of the seniors took part in the match program. Of those students, 56 percent matched with their first choice and 81 percent received one of their top three choices.

This year, 85 percent of Jefferson's students placed in their first or second choice for residency.

Juniors should now begin learning about the match process and take advantage of the resources available in the GME Gateway on JEFFLINE. The GME Gateway organizes information about the important dates to be aware of, provides resources guides to help you in the planning process, and includes online tools to use during the application process.

AMA FREIDA
The Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database Access (FREIDA) is a database of information on approximately 7, 500 graduate medical education programs and 200 specialty programs that are recognized by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The information is provided through the AMA Annual Survey of Graduate Medical Education Programs and Teaching Institutions. A sample database record contains summary statistics on work hours, residents, and faculty in a specialty or subspecialty. Other valuable benefits to not be overlooked are following:

  • New informative sections on the current physician workplace environs gives results of a recent AMA Survey of GME graduates who share their employment seeking and work experiences.

  • Accurate and inexpensive mailing labels for programs are available to AMA members and non-members for little or no cost.
AAMC ERAS
ERAS the Electronic Residency Application Service from the Association of American Medical Colleges! ERAS is a service which transmits residency applications, letters of recommendation, Dean's Letters, transcripts, and other supporting credentials from medical schools to residency program directors using the Internet.

NMRP ROLIC
The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is a private, not-for-profit corporation established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education (GME). Five organizations sponsor the NRMP and appoint members to the board: the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Hospital Association (AHA), and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS). Each year, the NRMP conducts a match that is designed to optimize the rank ordered choices of students and program directors. In the third week of March, the results of the Match are announced.

The NRMP is not an application processing service; rather, it provides an impartial venue for matching applicants' and programs' preferences for each other consistently. Each year, approximately 16,000 U.S. medical school students participate in the Match. In addition, another 17,000 "independent" applicants compete for the approximately 23,000 available residency positions. Independent applicants include former graduates of U.S. medical schools, U.S. osteopathic students, Canadian students, and graduates of foreign medical schools.
