Update Your COS Research Profile:
Register as a Jefferson Research Resource
Thomas Jefferson University joined the Community of Science in the fall of 2000. If you're not already familiar with this partnership, Expertise is a database of approximately half a million CVs from researchers and faculty at research institutions and companies worldwide. The database is searchable by name, institution, research interests, and more. All TJU full time faculty will be included in this database, which links to other COS databases such as MEDLINE, Patents, Funding Opportunities and Meetings.

With the onset of spring, we're in full swing updating TJU Research Profiles in the COS Expertise database. TJU Research Profile user names and passwords have been sent to full-time faculty, who should be adding information to their profiles. These profiles provide online CVs, with links to funding opportunities and publication abstracts. While Jeffersonians other than full-time faculty and researchers may create a research profile, they may not be able to maintain a published record. Support web pages are available.

Before April 12th, please log into your account and add a description of your research interests.

Indexers from the Community of Science will use this information to assign keywords to your profile. These keywords will be matched to new funding records added to the COS Funding Opportunities database, which will be emailed to you each week.
Until April 10th, Scott Library staff will be available to help you enter your record in the AISR Learning Research Center. Bring a copy of your CV in print and on disk.

On April 16th, funding alerts will begin. You will then be able to edit your funding alert strategy from your Research Profile Workbench.

Those who would like help entering their profiles can email their CVs to the TJU-COS liaison, Margy Grasberger, at Margaret.Grasberger@mail.tju.edu. AISR staff will add MEDLINE publications to the profiles, and format the other information for uploading in the Community of Science database. Because of the volume of these requests, allow some time for processing.

When updating your profile, please take a moment to complete a brief form for various TJU research interest groups. These groups have asked for ways to use the Research Profiles to identify researchers willing to:

  • host summer research students
  • serve as mentors for new researchers
  • collaborate with other Jefferson researchers on research projects
  • be contacted by Public Relations for media interviews
  • share equipment with qualified Jefferson researchers.
Results from the form will be entered in TJU Research Profiles in a searchable format. Your registration does not imply commitment, only a willingness to consider requests as they occur.

Thanks to all involved in creating this multipurpose resource. Please direct your suggestions and questions to the TJU-COS liaison, Margy Grasberger, 215-503-7815, Margaret.Grasberger@mail.tju.edu

Thanks to Tiby Panea and Paul Corrado for their help.
